About the Role

Alma Mater International School is seeking a Senior English Language and Literature Teacher to join our High School team in Krugersdorp. This full-time, on-site position involves teaching English Language and Literature at Cambridge AS and A Level. The successful candidate will plan and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons that develop students’ advanced language skills, literary analysis, critical thinking and communication abilities. The role includes assessing and monitoring student progress, providing detailed and constructive feedback, adapting teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs, and preparing students effectively for Cambridge examinations. The successful candidate will also contribute to departmental leadership, curriculum development, moderation, academic enrichment activities, school events and ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach English Language and Literature at Cambridge AS and A Level.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons aligned with the Cambridge International curriculum.
  • Develop students’ advanced language, literary analysis, critical-thinking and communication skills.
  • Prepare students effectively for Cambridge examinations.
  • Assess and monitor student progress.
  • Provide constructive and detailed feedback.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain a positive, disciplined and academically stimulating classroom environment.
  • Provide individual academic support where required.
  • Contribute to departmental leadership and curriculum development.
  • Participate in moderation, school events and academic enrichment activities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional-development initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a relevant subject major.
  • PGCE / recognised Teaching Qualification.
  • Cambridge International curriculum experience.
  • SACE registration.
  • Legal right to work in South Africa.
  • Availability for full-time, on-site teaching.
  • Willingness to undergo relevant pre-employment screening, including police clearance and drug testing where applicable.
